Update: | Nov 2010 It has been an eventful 18 months. I was working at the local golf course and doing a lot of bartering while conducting my job search with LHH in Greentree. I also drove the produce truck to Chambersburg/Biglerville keeping McGinnis Sisters supplied with fresh peaches, nectarines, apples and cider. Noreen and I finally took our trip to Sicily/Italy with a group of ski buddies. We started in Palermo and visited my grandfather's village of Alta villa Milicia, a beautiful town on a cliff above the sea. I didn't get to meet any relatives but there are 3 left, all women, so the Costa name no longer survives in the village. They have a festival every year on Sept 6th & 8th so we'll have to go back some year and meet the family. From there we visited Mt. Etna, Taormina, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Isle of Capri, Florence, Sienna, Modena and some other small villages in the area. The American Cemetery just south of Florence made for an overwhelming experience. An old knee injury finally slowed me down and I had lateral meniscus repair done in October and was able to ski Vail in early December. PT is so much easier to stick to when a job doesn't get in the way. I unfortunately developed a Baker's Cyst and this led to a fall on the slopes in Austria in January and to add insult to injury, I fell again on the way to the doctor's office on a snow covered icy sidewalk, slamming that same knee into a stone wall. A severe contusion meant no more surgery but an end to my ski season. This year's season kicked off early with a trip to Argentina in September which was fabulous spring skiing with a stop in Buenos Aires and a visit to the spectacular Igauzu Falls. In November of 2009 Delphi hired me back as a contract engineer doing my old job. With more molding machines and recovering volumes the other EE was swamped. It was supposed to last 3 months but only recently ended when I landed a position with Flabeg Solar US Corporation. I am really enjoying my new position manufacturing mirrors for solar power plants. It is a German company that is over 100 years old and has been in the solar mirror business for over 25 years. The building is mostly empty and my colleagues and I will be rapidly filling the space to handle new orders and customers. My father finally lost his battle with the side effects from treating his throat cancer over 25 years ago. The last thing he said to me was "I had a great run, didn't I" Noreen and I are very proud grandparents of Case Michael Dawson born 26Aug2010. Everyone is doing well and we are looking forward to our next visit. He is in the 99th percentile so Michael will have to keep cooking up a storm. Michael's business is doing well and he and Dannon were able to purchase their first house. Jamie graduated from the Charlotte Institute of Art and Pitt and is working for McGinnis Sisters and will transition into marketing soon. Shawn is working retail while preparing for the GMATs and a return to school for his MBA. Being empty nesters didn't last long as 2 out of 3 have boomeranged back home. |
